This beautiful polychrome Buddha statue is from a private collection and has not changed hands for over 45 years. The attractive, contemplative wooden sculpture depicts Lord Buddha. Lord Buddha achieved enlightenment through meditation and prayer. He observed the cycles of rebirth and had achieved the ultimate goal of nirvana. Nirvana is described as liberation from all mental and physical constraints to achieve transcendental bliss. This particularly moving sculpture has a contemplative mood. It brings peace, tranquility, joy and a sense of self reflection. The figure is seated in a form to provide blessing. The naturalness of body stresses nearness and accessibility. The sculpture is painted with vegetable paints and is in excellent condition considering its age.
